Nutrient IV Therapy
Many nutrients are difficult to absorb from food and supplements, especially when digestive symptoms are part of the picture. Nutritional IVs and shots bypass the challenging absorption process to enter the body directly, providing unparalleled delivery of nutrients. IVs can be used to boost energy, relieve brain fog, support the immune system, and rapidly correct nutritional deficiencies. They can also be used to jumpstart a treatment plan and provide quick relief of symptoms.
In practice, Dr. Jen Johnson, ND, LAc often sees individuals with iron or B vitamin deficiencies. People who have regular periods (especially heavy periods) lose a substantial amount of iron, vitamin B12, and folate every month, and it can be hard to recoup these losses from diet alone. Both iron and vitamin B12 are hard to come by in plant-based diets, and weak digestion, medications (especially ones for heartburn), and even other nutrients can prevent absorption. Deficiencies of these nutrients can cause a variety of bothersome symptoms, such as fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, dizziness, rashes, and tingling in the fingers and toes. While supplements can be used to correct these deficiencies, progress can be slow depending on digestion and how much is being lost. In sensitive individuals, supplementing B vitamins or iron can trigger side effects such as nausea and constipation. In cases where rapid relief is desired, supplements aren’t tolerated, or symptoms aren’t improving with supplements, nutritional IVs and shots are an excellent resource.
Dr. Jen Johnson, ND, LAc currently offers iron infusions and a blend called a Myer’s cocktail that contains vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, and B vitamins. Injections of vitamin B12 alone or as a B-Complex are also available.
